Yes, you read that right. We have now launched our London walks into the digital age and you can now access our tours via your mobile phone, as well as on your pc and laptop. We have well and truly embraced the digital age.
The Electronic Tourist is an innovative and exciting website that lets you download sections of our London walks for just 50p. Once done you will be able to follow our London Walking Tour routes on your mobile phone as you are guided through the streets and places where London’s history was made.
Beatles London walks.
Since earlier in August saw the anniversary of the Beatles most famous album cover being photographed on the corssing at Abbey Road, we thought we’d open the profiling of our new walks of London website with a look at what is without doubt the most famous pedestrian crossing in the world - Abbey Road.
In December 2008, on the anniversary of John Lennon’s murder, Richard Jones, Mark Ubsdell and Roger Grant dutifully traipsed over to St John’s Wood Underground Station and filmedĀ segment which told the story of how the Beatles came to shoot the iconic album cover.
Richard was, of course, the first person to offer walks around Beatles London and so this was very much a case of returning to his roots (or should that be routes?) and filming a tour that he actually started and originated.
What was striking was just how many people there were who had also made the pilgrimage that day and who were walking back and forth over the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing.
The beauty of our Electric Tourist London walks is that you have your very own personal guide there on your mobile.
So if you want to go over the crossing in Abbey Road and stand before the studios where The Beatles recorded the majority of their songs then you don’t have to join a scheduled departure and cram yourself onto one of the London walks that might have 50 or so people on it. You can just go there when you choose, walk at your own pace and cross the crossing as many times as you wish. How cool is that!
This really is an exciting and innovative development on the London walks scene. Not only can you now take a guide with you and have the guide explain everything your looking at, but you can also follow detailed step by step directions that get you round the walks route.
Dramatic reconstructions of the events will help you picture what it was like when all these events in history happened on the very site where you are standing.
