Welcome to London Discovery Tours

Wits, Wantons & Wenches

Oh No! We’re going bawdy again. This time we’ve been digging into the history of Covent Garden, London’s 18th century “Sin City.” We make our way through the lives and lusts of Samuel Pepys, James Boswell, the Duke of Buckingham and a host of bit part players.

We visit the “Hole in the Wall” pub, where a celebrated highwayman was captured whilst sleeping Men drinking and smoking.of the effects of a mammoth drinking bout! We step into a beautifully preserved 18th century courtyards that is still lit by its original gas lamps.

We outline the stories and lives of the people whose slavish dedication helped make this area a byword for debauchery. Dukes and beggars; peeresses and prostitutes; the upright and the depraved; the wits and the witless.

You’ll pass the “Bucket of Blood;” visit the haunts of Nell Gwynne, trip into the alleyway where James Boswell once received a nasty shock; and step into the timeless interior of the “Clock House” where the “King of the Pick-Pockets” once held court and a “policeman would be as afraid to enter as he would the cage of a cobra.”

So join us on a pub tour that is refreshingly unconventional, decidedly Un politically correct and proud of it, but which is fun and informative with it.
