Soho - London’s Saucy Village

Soho has seen and been it all. Once green fields where a hunting cry “So-ho!” gave birth to a village that soon became London’s Aristocratic, Artistic and intellectual centre.

By the 19th century it had declined into one of London’s worst slums. Yet it still managed to attract the likes of Charles Dickens and Karl Marx.

It was the birthplace of British pop music, and then it became the porn capital of England. Today it is a colourful, cosmopolitan village of contrasts. Homely, yet sleazy.

In exclusive clubs gentlemen jostle with journalists, whilst artists and poets exchange wit and wisdom in backstreet pubs. Hopeful actors ply there wares, con men lurk in timeless squares, whilst pop stars dodge the curious stares.

It is the spectacularly colourful Chinatown. But it also the red light district where seedy stores advertise “poppers for sale.” It is London at its best and worst, a neighbourhood unlike any other. It’s exciting, vibrant and once you’ve discovered it you will be back and that’s a promise!
