It’s Haunted Britain Again - Harry Potter London

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Tomorrow Richard takes a brief break from his haunted London walks and sets of to snap photographs for his new upcoming book Haunted Britain.

With the text now in the final copy editing stage and the Forward, which was written by Tom Baker (who called it “the book I’ve been waiting for all mu life”) the hard part is no over and it just remains to get some extra photos.

We had a lovely comment about our free Harry Potter Tour yesterday. Two ladies from Texas emailed to say how much they had enjoyed following the route and that it had introduced them to parts of London they were really pleased to have discovered.

Our free London walks will start rolling out this month and we’ve got some great ones for you.

In the mean time, if you would like a copy of the Harry Potter London walk, then please just send an email to harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and the pdf will then come flying back to you.

You then just print it off and away you go.

Whilst he is away Richard will also be resuming his blog on Haunted Britain which you can follow at the Haunted Britain Blog.

Hopefully there will  be some great photos to go up so keep watching this spot and also check back later this month when the next of our free London walks will go live.

On another note Mark Ubsdell is currently doing the final edit on the Sherlock Holmes documentary he and Richard have been working on throughout the winter. It was recently showcased at MIP and generated a lot of interest amongst TV companies throughout the world. So in closing why not have a watch of the trailer for The Man Who Murdered Sherlock Holmes. Hope you enjoy it.

Harry Potter Walk - London

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

We’re about to make the necessary amendments to our Harry Potter London walks and treasure hunt to take in the locations used in the new film Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

To be honest London doesn’t feature that much in the film, apart from a thrilling sequence at the beginning which is guaranteed to send a shiver down the spine of anyone who decides to take a stroll over the Millennium Bridge!

The film begins with a wonderful ariel view over London and at first it is the City that those who have joined us on our London walks will instantly recognise.

But all is not well in the world of the Muggles. No sooner do you recognise familiar landmarks than dark shadows come shooting down from the sky. They are the Death Eaters en route to wreak havoc on Muggles London.

Walks that feature the locations that are used in this first scene are plentiful. Suffice it to say that there is a wonderful view of Trafalgar Square, after which the Death Eaters race past the Church of St, Martin in the Fields, past Leicester Square Underground Station and onwards and upwards.

The next scene shows a long view of St Paul’s Cathedral looking over the Millennium Bridge. The shadows come up from behind the dome and then swoop down onto the bridge itself causing it to twist and buckle before it breaks up and falls into the River Thames. It really is an exciting sequence.

The last view shows the Death Eaters flying over  Tate Modern, which looks particularly good in the scene.

Thereafter the rest of the film takes place way out of London as Harry and his friends do battle with all manner of enemies both within and without Hogwarts.

You can get your free PDF of our Harry Potter London walks by emailing us at harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and we’ll respond within five minutes attaching a copy of our 28 page PDF booklet of the Harry Potter London walks.

Whilst we’re on the subject of our Harry Potter London walk, one of the people who did the tour at the end of June got a really nice surprise as they were following the route. We’ll tell you what it was in Friday’s Blog.

Walks in London - Harry Potter

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Our Harry Potter London walks are about to be updated to incorporate the locations used in the new film Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Richard and his two boy wizards, Thomas and William, went to see the film on Sunday and noted the London locations that are featured in the film.

Today, Monday July 20th 2009, Richard will be walking the Harry Potter London walks route and making the necessary amendments to include the locations that were featured in the new film.

As mentioned in an earlier blog one notable London scene will feature the Death Eaters leading an attack in London that causes the Millennium Bridge to wobble an awful lot!

So one certain amendment to the Harry Potter Walking Tour of London will be a slight detour from the route along the south bank of the River Thames onto the Millennium Bridge where you will be able to picture the scene as it buckles under the attack from the Death Eaters.

Trafalgar Square and the Gherkin also feature in the film so they will also be featured in the coming update of the Harry Potter London walk.

If you haven’t yet requested our free Harry Potter London walks PDF then you can do so by simply sending us an email request to

harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com

and you’ll get it almost immediately.

The PDF is a 28 page booklet that we send to you as an email attachment and you then download, print off and follow its step by step instructions around the streets of London. It also incorporates a treasure hunt through London to keep the kids occupied between locations.

It is a detailed document complete with photographs of the locations visited. In addition you get a lot of the history of the different parts of London that the Walking Tour of Harry Potter film locations passes through.

So, for example, you cross London Bridge and find out why it was/ is falling down. You go inside the church that features in the ryme Oranges and Lemons and discover the meaning behind the rhyme.

The best part though is that our tour is one of our Free London walks that will only cost the paper and ink to print it off and your travel expenses to the start point.

Richard Jones wrote the tour because he wanted to show parents that they really could enjoy a family day out in London and not end up spending lots of money. In a nutshell that’s exactly what Richard’s free London walks do. They show you that you can, if you wish, spend a day, few days, or even a week in London enjoying some great attractions all of which are free.

So don’t delay. send us an email to harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and we will send you the free Harry Potter London walks PDF within about 5 minutes. Magic or what?
