The Harry Potter Tour of London

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

We are the only London walks company to offer a free Harry Potter Tour of London. Some great things have happened to people who have requested our Harry Potter PDF. One family were following the route when they suddenly encountered the filming for the next Harry Potter film - how cool is that! They even saw Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint on set.

Our tour has proved hugely popular and we have now sent out almost 5,000 downloads of the tour.

Until very recently our Harry Potter London walks were manually uploaded per request. Since the PDF itself runs to over 30 pages it was getting to the stage where it was taking nearly three hours a day just to send out the PDF’s in reply to the requests for our London walks.

We have been champing at the bit to get on with our new free London walks the Riverside London Pub Tour and spending so much time a week sending out the Harry Potter Tour meant we couldn’t give the time required to ensure that the free  London Pub Walk was up to the standard our clients have come to expect.

And then, as if by magic, we found the solution! We automated the entire process. Now to request a copy of our Harry Potter London Tour you just have to send us an email to harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and lo and behold within about a minute the entire 30 page PDF booklet will suddenly land in your in box.

This is great for us as we can now forge ahead with our free London walks (all of which will be likewise automated), it’s great for you because you will no longer have to wait for us to answer your email, the whole process works within minutes and is fully automated.

So why not put our new system to the test? Simply ping us an email to harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and the world famous Harry Potter London walk will be with you in no time.

Once you get the pdf you simply open the file, print it off and off you go. We have also started testing it on the Blackberry hand-held and, although the download takes a little longer, it works like magic.

So now you don’t even need to print off our London walks you can download them to a Blackberry (we haven’t actually tested it on other mobiles yet so we can’t say for certain if you can download our London walks harry Potter Tour onto other handsets) and you can follow it on your screen.

Keep an eye out for other London walks that will be going live soon and we’re even hard at work putting together a bus tour of London that you will be able to do yourself for nothing more than the cost of a Travel Card or an Oyster card. More info will follow soon.

But for now send us the email to harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com and see for yourself how we’re about to open up the London Walking Tour scene for free to everybody.

London walks - Harry Potter Tour

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

The update of our Harry Potter London walk has now been completed and the tour now includes the (limited) number of London scenes featured in the new movie.

You can receive the tour by emailing us at

harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com

and the tour will be in your in box within about 5 minutes.

London’s appearances in the film are confined to the opening sequence which sees the Death Eaters swoop down over the streets of the capital leaving a trail of havoc and devastation in their wake.

The locations that we have included in the updated version include Trafalgar Square, St Martin In The Fields, Leicester Square Underground Station, The Gherkin, Tate Modern, and a particularly chilling and thrilling scene of the Millennium Bridge.

It is when you see London from the air, as you do in the opening sequence of the new movie, that you really appreciate what a stunning a breathtaking City it is.

Of course, those who join us on our London walks see this for themselves at every twist, turn and road fork that they take.

As has been said in previous blogs London is truly a city of surprises  and our Harry Potter London tour shows you just what an easy to walk through place London is.

We’ve put up some great London stories on the new Harry Potter Tour. You’ll learn about the different plans for Trafalgar Square before it was decided to site Nelson’s Column there. You’ll learn about the London church that caused an absolute sensation when it was first built.

You’ll learn how the City of London, the one square mile where it all began, is in fact guarded by a ring of dragons. We tell you how these supposedly mythical beasts are alive and well and the reason Muggles don’t believe in them is because of the efforts of the Ministry of Magic to keep these fire breathing lizards hidden from the prying eyes of Muggles!

In addition the new Harry Potter London walk includes  visit to the National Portrait Gallery to view the recently acquired photograph of the Harry Potter actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

So don’t delay email us at

harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com

for a free PDF download version of the Harry Potter Tour and set off into the magical world of wizards and legendary beasts that these London walks open up for you.

To order your copy simply send an email request to

harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com

You can then print of what is now a 30 page booklet and enjoy a magical London walk through places and buildings that are steeped in history and mystery.

Guess Who that is on our Walks in London?

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Our Harry Potter London walks have been causing quite a stir and it’s easy to see why. They offer parents with children a full day out in London that costs next to nothing and yet keeps the kids occupied throughout.

The reason? Not only do they get to see the Harry Potter London film locations but they also get to enjoy a treasure hunt that takes them all over London.

They might have to find funny faces on the walls of buildings. They will find themselves looking for the Rats Tails inside one of London’s most historic churches.

In addition parents and children will enjoy a whole series of short London walks that will introduce them to places they would never dream existed.

This is a constant comment by those who have emailed us to say how much they have enjoyed the Harry Potter London walk.

However, on Sunday 28th June 2009 one family were following our Harry Potter Tour route to the site of the Ministry of Magic when they walked straight into a film shoot for the next Harry Potter film,  The Deathly Hallows.

Not only did they get to see a scene that they recognised from the book being filmed but they actually got to see Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, as Daniel Radcliff and Rupert Grint were on set.

Needless to say they were thrilled by this unexpected turn of events and they emailed us to let us know how this was ” an unexpected, happy surprise and a great story thanks to your walking tour!”

Now we know that we can’t claim the credit for the fact they were filming in the streets covered by our London walks on the day and at the time that this family chose to do our Harry Potter Tour (how great would it be if we could lay this on every time?!) but it just goes to show why Walking in London is one of the best ways to get to see the city.

Had this family been on a bus tour they might have caught a brief  glimpse of the filming as the bus sped along Whitehall, but it would have remained just that - a brief glimpse.

Yet here was a family that took to their feet, and walked around London and this great city did what it so often does for those who take the time to explore it on walks - it surprised them and gave them something to remember for years to come. Something that, no doubt they will look back fondly on when they see Harry Potter and the Deathly Halllows.

If you would like a copy of our free London walks Harry Potter Tour please send us an email to

harry-potter-pdf@discovery-walks.com

and, as if by magic, our automated process will send you a 30 page PDF booklet that you can just print off and follow.

Now we have to tackle the problem of topping Harry Potter turning up on our Harry Potter London Tour route!
